I provided local IT support at Al Quweira in Jordan, supporting IT infrastructure at the site. My contribution was practical site support within the solar project.
The solar development
Al Quweira's story brings together Jordanian energy infrastructure, UAE development funding and an international delivery partnership. In its announcement of 26 April 2018, TSK reported the inauguration of the photovoltaic plant at Quweira in Jordan, financed through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. The company described it as the country's largest photovoltaic plant at that time. That description belongs to the project's 2018 context.1
Delivery and funding
TSK led a joint venture with Enviromena Power Systems for the project. Its account describes an assignment spanning detailed engineering, equipment supply, construction and start-up, with an agreement that also covered operation and maintenance during the warranty period. This places the plant within a delivery relationship extending beyond construction alone.1
In December 2018, the Jordanian government decided to name the complex after Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Reporting the decision, the Jordan Times cited a Planning Ministry statement describing a US$150 million UAE grant through ADFD. The project became a visible expression of the development partnership between the two countries.2
Project milestones
Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources provides a later reference point in its 2025 renewable energy project list. It identifies Al-Qweira as a Gulf Grant project executed by TSK and Enviromena, records 92 MW AC and 103 MW DC, and lists the plant as operational from July 2018. The April inauguration and July operational milestone describe different stages in the project's history.3
That connection remains part of the project's public story. In May 2026, ADFD highlighted the Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Complex in Quweira in a retrospective on its partnership with Jordan. It provides a timely reason to revisit the people and work behind the development, alongside its role in the country's energy infrastructure.4
